Email Updates

June 01, 2022

Hello JIM Club family,

There is just one month to go before camp starts! We wanted to share a few quick updates regarding what health precautions to expect this summer, as well as update on Session 3.

Session 3

Due to low interest, we will not offer Session 3 this year. We have already reached out to the families who had expressed interest in attending Session 3 this summer. As we regrow our camper and staff populations post-pandemic, we hope to offer Sessions 3 and 4 again in future summers.

COVID-19 precautions

After reviewing both government guidance and what other summer camps are doing, we will implement the following precautions for this summer to prevent COVID-19 from entering camp:

  • About one week before each session starts, we will send a survey to families with a list of symptoms and risks to watch out for before arriving at camp.
  • When families arrive at camp, they will be asked a few questions to confirm their health status and whether they have recently experienced any COVID-19-related symptoms.
  • If someone develops COVID-19-like symptoms while at camp, we will isolate them until a determination can be made.

To date, New York State has not published any COVID-19 health protocols for summer camps, but we will inform families if any protocols are implemented for this summer. Canadians crossing the border will need to satisfy border-crossing health protocols – keep reading for further details.

Canada-US border

Although JIM Club will not require anyone to be tested or vaccinated, there are still restrictions when crossing the international border. If you plan to cross the Canada-US land border to attend camp, here are the key things to be aware of:

  • Most travellers aged 12+ need proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to make a round-trip across the border.
  • Most travellers do not need a negative test result to cross the border.
  • All travellers returning to Canada must answer a health survey in the ArriveCan app (including uploading their proof of vaccination, if applicable) before arriving at the border.
  • There may be longer-than-usual queues at the border this summer.

You can visit our 2022 Summer page to read the full set of rules for crossing the border. We will send an update email to families if these rules are relaxed.

With camp only a month away, we look forward to seeing many familiar faces once again. If you have been thinking of attending but have not yet registered, can you complete your registration form online? It would help us finalize plans for this summer.

May 15, 2022

Dear JIM Club family:

We wanted to share a few updates on how registration for this summer is progressing since our last email on March 27. Our apologies in advance for the length of this email.

Sessions 1 and 2

As a reminder, the session dates for this summer are:

  • WIT/CIT Training Week: Sunday, June 25 to Saturday, July 2
  • Session 1: Sunday, July 3 to Saturday, July 16
  • Session 2: Sunday, July 17 to Saturday, July 30

Session 1 is about 60% full, and Session 2 is about 30% full We anticipate that we will operate Session 1 at full capacity. If you have not registered yet and have flexibility in your summer plans, we’d ask you to consider Session 2 if possible to create space for other campers.

We are still accepting applications for new campers. If you know a boy who would be a good fit for camp, please check our for instructions for new boys on how they can apply.

As noted on our 2022 Summer page, families are invited to stay for the Saturday Afternoon Program, which will run from 3:00pm to 4:30pm on the final Saturday of camp. We hope that this earlier timing will make it easier for families to stay and watch the program before driving home.

Session 3

In our last email, we stated that we would consider offering Session 3 (Sunday, July 31 to Saturday, August 13) if there is sufficient interest. To date, only five campers have expressed interest. If you have a strong preference for attending Session 3 this summer but have not yet contacted us, please email us by Thursday, May 19. We will make a final decision on whether to run Session 3 by this coming weekend.

Canada-US border

The Canada-US border continues to require most travellers aged 12+ to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (See our 2022 Summer page for the current rules.) Although we cannot predict whether the rules will loosen in time for camp, we wanted to build a list of people who may be interested in attending if the vaccine requirement is lifted. If you are a Canadian camper or staff member who would like to attend if the border rules are relaxed, please email us.

Celebration for Brian Stapley

In our newsletter a few months ago, we had announced that we would recognize Brian Stapley for his years of service to JIM Club at a celebration the weekend of July 16. We have decided to delay this celebration until 2023 when it will be easier for families to travel. We will communicate the updated 2023 date for this celebration once the dates have been arranged.

As always, if you have any questions about registration for this summer, please don’t hesitate to send us an email.

March 27, 2022

Dear JIM Club family:

We are almost ready to open registration for 2022! In the next few days, you will receive an automated email containing instructions on how to log in to the registration website and register for camp this summer. After two very long years, we are looking forward to running a normal summer of camp once again.

We wanted to provide a few quick updates and reminders for campers and staff as they prepare to register.

Session dates

We will offer at least two sessions and a training week in 2022. Like last summer, we will begin each session on a Sunday and end on a Saturday. The session dates for this summer are:

  • WIT/CIT Training Week: Sunday, June 25 to Saturday, July 2
  • Session 1: Sunday, July 3 to Saturday, July 16
  • Session 2: Sunday, July 17 to Saturday, July 30

We are considering adding a third session if there is sufficient demand. If you are only able to attend Session 3 (or able to attend multiple sessions, but prefer Session 3), please indicate that in the “Special Requests” field on the Personal Data Form. We will monitor incoming registrations and make a decision on whether we will offer Session 3 by early May.

  • Session 3: Sunday, July 31 to Saturday, August 13

New campers

We are accepting applications for new campers to attend JIM Club this summer. If you know a boy who would be a good fit for camp, please check our for instructions for new boys on how they can apply.

Open house

Assuming that case counts remain low, we will welcome families to attend our Saturday Afternoon Program in-person in 2022. The program runs from 3:00pm to 4:30pm on the final Saturday of camp. We encourage families to stay for the program when they arrive to pick up their son.

COVID-19 precautions

New York State has not announced any COVID-related health protocols for summer camps. We will inform families via email if the State introduces any new requirements.

We have not yet made a final decision on whether campers and staff will need to present a negative COVID-19 test result when they arrive at camp. We are monitoring the Omicron BA.2 subvariant. If case counts remain low this spring, we will inform families if we intend to waive this requirement.

Canada-US border

The Canada-US border has reopened to non-essential traffic. Travellers 12+ years old need proof of vaccination to complete a round-trip into the US and back to Canada. We have posted the current set of border restrictions on our website. We hope that border restrictions continue to abate in the coming months so that all Canadian families can return to camp with minimal friction at the border this summer.

Thank you again for your ongoing prayers and support for camp. Please keep an eye out for another email arriving this week with instructions on how to register. If you encounter any issues with registration or have other questions, please don’t hesitate to email us.

February 03, 2022

Dear JIM Club family:

We are happy to announce our plans for camp this coming summer! Although the pandemic continues to create uncertainty, we wanted to share dates and some high-level details so that families can begin to make plans.

Camp dates

We will offer at least two sessions of camp in 2022. If there is sufficient demand, we may open a third session. Like last summer, we will begin each session on a Sunday and end on a Saturday. The session dates for this summer are:

  • Session 1: Sunday, July 3 to Saturday, July 16
  • Session 2: Sunday, July 17 to Saturday, July 30
  • Session 3: Sunday, July 31 to Saturday, August 13 (tentative, if demand permits)

Our WITs, senior workers, and counselling staff are also welcome to attend Training Week:

  • Training Week: Sunday, June 25 to Saturday, July 2

Registration

We will email you in early March when registration opens for returning campers and staff. We will also welcome applications from prospective new campers (you can read our application instructions).

Practicalities

Given how fluid the pandemic has been, a lot may change over the next five months. Here are some of the things that we are monitoring:

  • New York State has not yet announced any COVID-related health protocols for summer camps. We will inform families if the State introduces any new requirements.
  • We cannot predict how case numbers will trend this summer. Campers and staff should assume that they will need to present a negative COVID test result or proof of vaccination when they arrive at camp.
  • The Canada-US border has reopened to non-essential traffic, although most travellers over a certain age need to provide a negative test result and/or proof of vaccination when crossing. We hope that border restrictions abate in the coming months so that most Canadian families can return to camp with minimal friction at the border this summer.

Thank you for your prayers and support over the past two years. We are excited to welcome families back to camp this summer, and we look forward to seeing many of you on the shores of Chautauqua once again.

The Boys JIM Club Registration Team
